At the end of 2022, $1.5 million had been spent upgrading the iconic tourism park in Timber Creek, which has been in operation since the 1970s. 

Project overview: 

The Gunamu Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) own the Wirib Store and Tourism Park. When AIG was engaged in 2019, the facilities were run down and struggling to compete with other services in the region, negatively affecting GAC’s earning capacity. 

AIG and GAC worked together to rebuild the store’s financial viability. Through our grant writing services, GAC secured $1.5 million through various grants to upgrade the park.

The upgrades included:

• A licenced café
• Luxury units
• Amenities block renovation
• Camp kitchen renovation
• New gardens
• Sewerage upgrades
• Painting existing units
  

AIG managed the park upgrades free of charge. The upgraded café allowed for the engagement of the Air Force, which stayed in the park and utilised the newly built café as a mess hall, resulting in an additional $500,000 in revenue for Wirib and Gunamu in late 2022.  

Transition to self-management:

In February 2023, the Board of Wirib and Gunamu took a huge step, moving to self-management. AIG is very proud of all we have achieved for Wirib and Gunamu. We wish the board all the very best for their future.
