Our approach
AIG is a financially autonomous, 100% Aboriginal-owned organisation. We operate using a unique model funded by returns from our property portfolio. This model provides us with the unique advantage of being in control of our strategic direction.
Our leaders (The Board of AIG) are elected by and represent Aboriginal people living in the seven northern regions of the NT. Through them, we forge a strong and meaningful connection to the Aboriginal communities we serve.

Our history
The purpose of AIG has always been to build stronger Aboriginal communities. It was the mandate when the group was formed over 30 years ago and remains as strong today.
AIG was set up originally by the Northern Land Council (NLC) in 1988 as a sibling entity to hold and administer Aboriginal-owned assets. For over 30 years, the strategic connection between the NLC and AIG was a strong and positive alliance, sharing the same board of directors and a mandate to service the same seven northern regions of the NT.
In 2022, the time was right for AIG to move forward with autonomy from the NLC and a divestment process was undertaken and completed as of July 1.
