Tuesday was a huge moment for our team as we officially opened 29 Katherine Terrace, our redeveloped commercial property in the Katherine CBD.
A large crowd gathered at the opening event, where we unveiled the Dr Bush-Blanasi Building in honour of Dr Bush-Blanasi’s long-standing support and involvement with AIG.
An integral member of the AIG Board from 2004-2021, as director and then Board Chair Dr Bush-Blanasi was still heavily involved with the organisation up until his passing last year.
“After completing his final term on the AIG Board, Dr Bush-Blanasi continued to be an integral supporter, providing sound advice and connection to communities with his regular drop-ins to the head office,” AIG CEO Liz Morgan-Brett said.
“In recognition of his long-standing leadership and commitment to AIG, we are honoured to name our new office development in Katherine the Dr Bush-Blanasi building.
“It is with great sadness that he will not be able to see the finished product. He kept a very close eye on the redevelopment, sending us weekly photo updates as he drove past the construction site. We are grateful that his children were able to attend the opening and be part of this important recognition.”
The architecturally designed office space will set new standards in commercial leasing with the two-story building focused on efficiency, sustainability, and harmony with the local environment.
The redevelopment delivers the first new office building on Katherine Terrace in a long time and feeds into the Katherine Municipal Plan of being a hub of the north.
“AIG is a self-funded Aboriginal Corporation and we’re delighted to be contributing towards the delivery of Katherine’s vibrant and growing economy, one where businesses are encouraged to set up and grow,” said Liz.
“AIG engages in sustainable development to deliver services for Aboriginal people living across the seven northern regions of the Northern Territory and the Katherine region is a major focus for us.
“We are immensely proud of this project. Its success is a credit to the strength of our board’s vision, foreseeing the importance of this vital asset to the future of AIG’s capability to continue to deliver our support services to the regions that we serve.”
