Purchase with a purpose

Always on the hunt for ways to financially support our Remote Laundries Project, we put our heads together in late 2019 to come up with an idea to create a reliable income stream. And the result? Branded bottle water.

In the past we bought expensive, interstate bottled water from the Coca-Cola Company to sell in the community stores we manage. Our idea was to buy cheaper locally produced water and brand it with out Remote Laundries Project logo. We figured it was a win win solution that would create benefits in four ways.

Firstly, the stores save money on stocking a cheaper product. Secondly profits from the sale of water can be divided between the store and the laundry – currently we make 24 cents profits on the sale of each bottle and 12 cents goes to the Remote Laundry Project. Thirdly we give businesses the opportunity to be involved in our Remote Laundries Project by stocking and selling our water – all while helping to spread brand awareness. And finally, we support local business Akuna Springs instead of a massive multinational.

We’ve been tracking the production, sale and profits of our branded water and we believe it’s well worth continuing. We started small to test the waters (mind the pun!), but the results have been so promising that we intend to move into larger scale production and distribution in the Northern Territory. It’s likely in the future you’ll see more of our water around, and if you do see it on the shelves – buy it! You’ll be supporting our Remote Laundries Project.

There are already supporters of this little venture:
Chow at the Darwin Waterfront, Sunset Soup Kitchen in Darwin, Eva’s Café in the Darwin Botanical Gardens, Ibis Hotel in Katherine, Bagala Store in Barunga, Wirib Store in Timber Creek, Balgo Community Store in Balgo (WA) and the Yarralin Community Store in Yarralin.
