The role
The COO works closely with the CEO in the delivery of AIG’s 4 key strategic objectives. The COO is responsible to ensure AIG has the operational and financial foundations needed for the successful delivery.
The key focus areas for the incoming COO are:
- The roll out of 40+ Remote Laundries across the Northern Territory in conjunction with our partner the Australian National Heart foundation with AIG’s remote laundries being a key element in the end game for Rheumatic Heart disease in the NT.
- Providing Indigenous community stores with access to buying power through a member buying group, while also independently managing stores, resulting in better price points and food security
- Delivering business support services for Aboriginal Corporations to build stronger communities and deliver economic and social outcomes through bookkeeping/ outsourcing of CFO function, governance training/ support, project planning/ management, grant writing, business planning and business advisory.
- Scoping of the redevelopment of AIG’s main commercial asset, 45 Mitchell Street, Darwin.
- Management of the Business Support Service and Finance Team.
About you
You will have a detailed understanding of financial management with a sound and proven knowledge of leading financial and reporting systems.
You will have strong business acumen including well developed budgeting, forecasting, and reporting skills, as well as demonstrated operational and cultural change management capabilities.
You will have highly developed interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, and the ability to manage a passionate and dedicated team with a diverse portfolio.
You will be able to develop and present material on complex matters to a wide range of audiences, along with making informed financial decisions and providing operational and strategic financial guidance to the CEO.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensure AIG’s compliance with its financial, legal and statutory reporting obligations;
- Prepare annual financial statements and manage annual financial audits;
- Keep accurate records and accounts for the Corporation in line with legal, tax and accounting requirements and prepare and monitor budgets/ forecast;
- Manage AIG’s business support services and finance team and undertake and supervise relating activities such as project/ grant management, business planning, mentoring, review of financial records;
- Design, implement and maintain efficient processes, reporting lines and utilisation of technology to ensure best practise standards are maintained;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community, organisations, government departments and other key stakeholders to continue and strengthen the AIG brand;
- Work closely with the AIG and client boards, develop and present material on complex matters as well as financial reporting
- Provide operational and strategic financial guidance to the CEO.
- Ensure the ongoing economic viability of AIG;
- Support the CEO in the implementation of AIG’s 4 key strategic priorities
Please note, this position will require the ability to travel to remote communities in the NT on a regular basis.
Selection Criteria:
1.Tertiary qualifications in Accounting
2. Post graduate qualifications in a related discipline complemented by Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant membership is highly desired.
3. Proven executive level, ethical leadership experience with a high level of financial acumen, providing strategic recommendations to the CEO and a Board
4. Demonstrated business capabilities in developing and implementing business plans, strategic and operational plans.
5. High level proven experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated experience with or understanding of Indigenous corporations, cultural sensitivity, and community relations.
Remuneration
AIG offers an attractive remuneration package (incl. super), with access to Salary Sacrifice and 5 weeks annual leave, ranging from $150,000 to $180,000 in line with the applicants capabilities.
