And just like that, our 2nd laundry launch of the year became a reality.
On 25th November, we had the honour of officially opening the Borroloola Laundry, located across from the local health clinic. This launch marks an important milestone for the community and for everyone involved in bringing the project to life.
The Borroloola Laundry was delivered in partnership with Mabunji Aboriginal Resource Indigenous Corporation (Mabunji) , who engaged Aboriginal Investment Group (AIG) to design, build and operate the facility. While the journey wasn’t without its challenges, and at one point we weren’t sure the launch would happen in 2025. However, ongoing collaboration, commitment and community-led design made this outcome possible.
From the initial approach by Mabunji through to countless meetings and co-design sessions with the local community, every step focused on ensuring the laundry truly reflected the needs and aspirations of Borroloola.
We are also incredibly grateful to Kimberly-Clark Family Care and Professional, who generously donated two pallets of toilet paper for the Borroloola community and who has committed to funding the laundry for the next 12 months! This support will make a meaningful difference, and we are deeply thankful.
In just the first two weeks of operation, the Borroloola Laundry has already recorded over 347 cycles and has since been averaging 30 cycles per day since then! An outstanding result that has set new records across all six Remote Laundries currently in operation.
