In early September 2025, our team travelled to Gunbalanya for a few days to film a promotional video capturing part of the Remote Laundries story and the impacts it has within communities. What began as a filming trip quickly became a meaningful experience shaped by community, connection and learning.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that storytelling in community can’t be rushed. The most powerful moments came through quiet conversations, shared laughter and simply observing daily life unfold. Being present and respectful of community rhythms was a reminder that impact is built through relationships, not timelines.
We are incredibly grateful to Matt Jasper and the Jasper Picture Company, who generously gave their time and expertise to this project. The two talented team members, Emel and Taylor’s thoughtful, grounded approach allowed stories to emerge naturally, capturing Gunbalanya as it is, with honesty and care.

One of the biggest learnings from this experience was just how much trust underpins everything. Trust takes time, consistency and respect. It’s built through relationships, not timelines. Filming in Gunbalanya was a reminder that meaningful work in remote communities only happens when people feel comfortable, heard and valued and that’s something we never take lightly.
